Jon and Sally have inherited lots of VHS tapes that are no longer wanted. Join us to help dismantle the cases so they can be recycled. Many hands make light work. Bring your own VHS or cassette tapes if you have any you are no longer using. There may even be popcorn!

Please join Transition Bluffton for an evening nature walk at the Bluffton University Nature Preserve. Local birdwatcher, Linda Houshower will lead the hike and help us to spot different birds along the way. She will also provide information on the common and not-so-common birds in our local area, as well as popular locations for birding in our surrounding area.
We will meet at the new Moyer Nature Center at the Bluffton University Nature Preserve on Augsburger Road at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bring a locally sourced food dish, a musical instrument ….or both to the Buckeye Park south shelter (closest to the pool and Main Street) at 7pm on Tuesday August 20th. Bring your family and friends! Let’s allow our differences to melt away and celebrate what we have in common. Bring your own dishes. We will provide water and lemonade.

Join in a discussion about Robin Kimmerer’s Potawatomi ideal of Honorable Harvest set forth in her book, Braiding Sweetgrass. Let’s explore what following such an ideal would mean for you, your neighbors and the community at large.
Kimmerer is Professor of Environmental and Forest Biology at the State University of
New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

— Join Transition Bluffton and Jon Tuttle for a field presentation on small scale bee keeping. We will meet on Tuesday, June 18 at 7:00 pm at Little Riley Creek Farm, Jon and Amanda’s organic farm. The farm is located at 9255 Lugabill Road, about three miles south of Bluffton. Jon will give us a primer on beekeeping basics including hive location and equipment. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. This will be a good demonstration of how we can respond to the declining bee population throughout the country.
Have you ever wondered if you could live off your own land, produce food for you and your family on an acre or less? How to position your garden for the best water access and sunlight? What plants can yield the most production on a small plot? Transition Bluffton will present a discussion about Permaculture On One Acre on Tuesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm on the third floor of Bluffton Town Hall. Whether you have experience in gardening, agriculture, permaculture or just curious, all are welcome to this open discussion led by Pete Badertscher of Transition Bluffton.

Join us for a panel discussion on responding to climate change hosted by Transition Bluffton and the Bluffton University Sustainability Club at 7:00 on March 19 in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center, Bluffton University. The evening will begin with three panelists sharing their intellectual, emotional, and spiritual responses to the reality of global climate change. The panelists are: Ken Lawrence, retired machinist and former bicycle shop owner and Bluffton resident; Kelsey Dyez, paleo climatologist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; and Emily Rush, Bluffton University student majoring in English. After the panelists each share their responses to global climate change there will be ample time for discussion among all those present at the event.
We are happy to be working with the Bluffton University Sustainability Club to present a showing of the movie “Anima Mundi”, a 2011 documentary that looks at peak oil, climate change, permaculture, and Gaia theory. Some of the deep thinkers heard on the movie include David Holmgren, Stephan Harding, Vandana Shiva, Michael C. Ruppert, and Noam Chomsky. There will be a discussion period following the movie.
The show begins at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 19 in the Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall on the Bluffton University campus. It is open to the public at no charge. Popcorn will be provided.
Transition Bluffton is pleased to host a Swap Night in the Village of Bluffton. Bring new, unwanted items or gently used, no longer needed things to trade for something that you can use. Items for the swap will include: clothing, small appliances, tools, books and other miscellaneous items. Open to the public at no charge.
Bring items to swap between 6:30 and 7:00 PM. Swapping starts at 7:00.

Carey Link is a group of folks in Carey, a town about 40 minutes east of Bluffton, that has much in common with Transition Bluffton. A regular activity they have is a repair clinic, where volunteers fix small appliances, clothing, bicycles, etc. at no charge for people in the community. The Link has a storefront in downtown Carey where the repair clinics and other activities take place.
We are planning a visit to Carey on this Saturday, Nov. 17 to check out the repair clinic and learn more about the organization.
